Inservice training for The British Wheel of Yoga


 

Sarah Lionheart has been providing wellbeing training in Education and the community for over 30 years and teaching meditation and self-inquiry since 1989.  


For the past two decades she has combined meditation, mindful awareness, therapeutic practices and positive psychology to create personal and professional development programmes in person and online, in the UK.  


Sarah’s mission is to inspire emotional health and wellbeing across the globe.  


She has trained with Kristin Neff PhD and Christopher Germer PhD who are world leading experts in self-compassion (UCSD); Jon Kabat Zinn, Jack Kornfield, Professor Mark Williams, Professor Paul Gilbert OBE and Choje Akong Tulku Rinpoche.


Sarah deeply believes that mindful self-compassion, acts of loving kindness and gratitude are pivotal to mind-health, wellbeing and happiness.


Work History:

After doing a year of teaching with Project Trust in Kenya in 1979, Sarah studied English and European Literature at Warwick University BA Hons although Sarah was struggling with serious illness at the time which required hospitalisations and reduced her ability to study.

Her personal tutor advised her to apply to Stanford University and she graduated in 1984 from Stanford with a First Class Masters in English, European  and American Literature with a specialisations in Italian Literature, Feminist Theory and the life and work of Virginia Woolf.

She came back home to England to study for a Ph.D at Durham University on Consciousness and Spirituality in Literature and taught on their masters English Programme whilst also teaching literature in the community. From 1989 she has been teaching yoga,  mindfulness, compassion, self compassion and meditation and led retreats and workshops across Europe.

In 2008 Sarah completed a PGCE in teaching mindfulness and self compassion to adults and in the same year joined a team of four as we taught a trial for the Masters in Mindfulness and Self Compassion at The University of Aberdeen.


Home Life

Sarah has been married since 1991 to Bill Lionheart, Professor of Mathematics at The University of Manchester whom she met in 1983.   They have two gorgeous adult children, three cats and a yacht for sailing oceans.  In the summer of 2014 she sailed across from Copenhagen to Hull.  She is a fully licensed Yacht skipper as of March 2016.


From Autumn 2011 Sarah has been a first soprano in St George’s Singers, an auditioned choir based in Poynton.

Sufism.

She has been a Humanist Celebrant since 1999.
